casta, as well as my own, amounting to about $1500, there I lost #3200 on this action alone.

The second action, which in fact was really to try the points raised to your letter under rapir, since Tatan brought an action against me for accounts and profits of the Hong Kon; Butchery up to date, vas investigated before the Chief Justice in a protracted trial lasting nine days, viz,on the 3rd 4th 5th *th 6th 10th 11th 12th and 13th days of April 1911. The facts as mentioned in your letter then came to light, but while His Honour could in no way paliate or excuse my conduct in any way, saying it was foolish in the extreme, on the mein fact, that is, whether I was carrying on, or in any way interested in the business of the Hongkong butchery, he decided in my favour and I therefore won my case, but as Tatem had no money I was obliged to pey my own Solicitors costs which amounted to about $8600.

I would mest respectfully point out to you that after the Writ in Tatam's action was issued against me and the matter brought before the Court, Tatam at the same time, who had openly Boasted that he would see I lost my pension, took sction against me by writing to Sir Henry May, the then Colonial Secretary of this Colony, setting forth his view of the case ( which the subsequent action proved false in nearly way detall) ant also called the attention of the Government to the fast that I had broken the Government regulations in indulging in trade.

This latter course, seeing the question in dispute was already before the Court, I considered entirely wanting in

every just principle, for it expo ed my weak position as a Govarnuent servant and enabled him to injure me, montally and physically, ma he could not have injured any private citizen.

I am happy to say that the matter which was referre? to the Sacretary of State was doulder in my favour, and

Although suspended from my duttes for some considerable time,

I
